Unknown Person: William & Mary’s Memorial for the Enslaved
Saturday, we attended the ceremony for College of William & Mary Memorial for the Enslaved. Our Founding Principal, Dave Gerstenmaier, had this to say, “About 250 people were in attendance, and I was struck by the atmosphere of loving kindness that permeated the whole ceremony. For every one name read of the memorialized, there was one unknown person, read aloud, as well. It was touching and a little overwhelming, and I felt really privileged to be a small part of remembering and honoring these people, who lived and worked on the campus back in pre-war Williamsburg. Burt Pinnock, AIA, from Baskervill was there as well, and I’m glad to be able to personally thank him and the university for bringing HG on to the design team, as I feel this was one of the most important projects of my career.” HG Design Studio provided civil engineering and landscape architecture for this project.
