Trip Down Memory Lane: Port Warwick Mixed-Use Community

Port Warwick is an award-winning, mixed-use community in Newport News, Virginia. Starting in 2000, HG Design Studio created the master plan to transform this former brownfield site into a thriving mixed-use neighborhood featuring public art, retail shops, various types of housing, restaurants, offices and a 4-acre town square that is the site of events like the summer outdoor concert series and the Christmas tree lighting event.

In 2007, Port Warwick was awarded the “Design Achievement Award” for Master Planning/Urban Design by the American Institute of Architects, Hampton Roads Chapter. That same year, it also received the “Excellence in Development Design Award” from The Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate.
